Privacy

We use anonymized data to make better routes.

Otherway collects a small amount of navigation and app usage data so we can improve the routing engine and understand whether the app is helping drivers find better roads.

What We Collect

When you plan or navigate a route, Otherway collects route and usage details such as the general start area, destination area, selected route option, route type, route distance, navigation duration, whether a drive was completed or ended early, and basic app or device information needed to diagnose product quality.

We never collect your precise location. Location points are reduced to approximate areas before they leave your device.

If you choose to send feedback after a drive, we collect the rating or message you submit along with route context for that drive. This is fed into a continuous feedback loop, so Otherway gets better over time.

Information Categories

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the categories of personal information we collect are:

  • Identifiers — an anonymous device ID generated on your device.
  • Approximate geolocation — general start and destination areas, not precise coordinates.
  • Internet or app activity — route choices and navigation outcomes within Otherway.
  • User-submitted content — the rating and message text of any feedback you send.

We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by CCPA. In particular, we do not collect precise geolocation.

How We Use It

We use this information to improve the routing engine, tune route profiles, find places where guidance or recalculation fails, and decide what parts of the app need more work.

We Do Not Sell or Share

Otherway does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use it to build advertising profiles or pass it to data brokers.

We do use service providers — for example, hosting and map data providers — that process data on our behalf under contract and only for the purposes we instruct.

Retention

We retain raw route and feedback records for up to 90 days, after which they are deleted or aggregated into non-identifying statistics.

No Account, No Profile

Otherway does not require an account. Telemetry uses an anonymous device ID generated on your device — not your name, email address, or advertising identifier. Resetting the app from Settings → Advanced clears this ID and your local data.

Your California Rights

California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
  • Delete personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. Otherway does not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information.
  • Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Because Otherway has no accounts, the only handle we have on your data is the anonymous device ID generated on your device. You can find this ID inside the app under Settings → Privacy. To exercise a right, email hello@otherwaynavigation.com with that ID included. We aim to respond within 45 days.

Children

Otherway is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
